Bob grew up in Boulder, CO and, after high school, attended the University of Missouri for one year prior to entrance to the Naval Academy with the Class of ’70. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation. Assignments included various command and staff billets, primarily dealing with computer/IT operations, air command and control systems, C4I programs and requirements, and systems acquisition.  Bob retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991 with 21 years active service. After the Marine Corps, he entered the defense industry arena supporting various contracts for the next 19 years. Projects included operational test and evaluation support, Pentagon renovation support, systems development, and systems acquisition support.  He ended his career in 2010 as a department head for L-3 Communications supporting the Marine Corps Systems Command at Quantico. Consultant work to various firms continued after his retirement. In addition to his Bachelor of Science degree from USNA, he holds Masters degrees in Computer Science (NPGS), International Relations (Salve Regina University), and National Security and Strategic Affairs (Naval War College). He is also a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

Bob is a Life Member of the USNA Alumni Association, a plank owner and past president of the Quantico Area Chapter, a company representative for his class organization, and a long-time supporter of Navy football. Bob and his wife Nancy reside in Stafford, VA.  They are blessed with two children, their spouses, and five grandchildren.
