Obituary (WA): Stanley Gordon Williams '68

Posted on 01/18/2019

Stanley Gordon Williams  (NOVEMBER 22, 1946 – JANUARY 7, 2019)

Stan loved music, had a well-developed sense of humor, and thoroughly enjoyed sports.

He was born in Annapolis, Maryland to Gordon Bennett Williams and Muriel Lorraine (McMillan) Williams. Stan graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1964, earned his bachelor’s and law degrees at UW, and a master’s degree in education at UPS. He spent most of his career as an attorney, later on teaching classes at Olympic College and Bremerton High School. Stan was active in the Kitsap County Bar Association and Bremerton Central Lions Club as well as the Bremerton Foodline, where he served as board chairman.

Stan used his singing talent beginning with high school musicals, then with the Bremerton Symphony Chorale, Puget Soundsters, Summit Avenue Chancel Choir, and The Nameless Quartet with Marsha Kane, Griff Ames, and Esther Ames.

An enthusiastic Husky football and Mariners baseball fan, Stan attended many games. He enjoyed playing softball as well as officiating with the Peninsula Umpires Association. In 2018 the Bremerton Parks and Recreation department dedicated Lions Field #2 as Stan Williams Field, in appreciation of his continued commitment to improving the athletic fields at Lions Park. He also campaigned for the Bremerton School District to replace the worn and unsafe sod at Memorial Stadium with artificial turf.

Stan leaves behind his close companion of many years, Marsha Kane, who helped him through everything, especially his difficult journey with Parkinson’s disease, as well as her son Thomas Eggleston and granddaughter Olivia Eggleston. Family members include his sisters Maureen (William Zimmerman), Suzanne Cannon, Julia Williams; nieces and nephews Sarah English (Rick Velez), Michelle Hoehne (John), David Stockwell, Jessica Neice (Nick), Claire Zimmerman (Miles Blankenship), Jeffrey Zimmerman (Iracel Rivero); and seven grand nieces and nephews.

We miss him.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Later Years.

The memorial service will be at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bremerton on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be made to the Gordon and Muriel Williams Scholarships at the Olympic College Foundation.
