James R. “Jim” Moore  (August 16, 1952 - January 29, 2023)

James R. “Jim” Moore, age 70, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly in his home on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Born in Milwaukee, WI on August 16, 1952, he was a son of the late Richard W. “Red” and Catherine Gail (Goetsch) Moore. Jim was a graduate of South Milwaukee High School in 1970 and attended the United States Naval Academy. He moved to Delaware in 1973 where he worked for the DuPont Company.

While employed by DuPont, Jim attended the University of Delaware and received his bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry in 2000. During his career in the pharmaceutical industry, he was awarded two patents for his research and retired in 2013.

Jim was very active in Lions Clubs International having served at the club, district, and multiple district level. He was elected to the position of District Governor in 1988. Jim was the youngest Lion elected to this position in Delaware. He served in both the Wilmington Manor and Newark Lions Clubs, having earned a multitude of awards, participated in countless volunteer and service activities, and held numerous officer positions including club secretary up until he passed.

Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Wimmer (Curtis). He is survived by his loving wife of soon to be 50 years in May, Nancy (Layman) Moore; children, Jennifer L. Dalby (Timothy) and James Allan Moore (Grace); grandchildren, Jordan Dalby, Cecelia Moore, Abigail Dalby, and Jameson Moore; brother, William R. Moore (Barbara); nieces and nephews, Shannon, Heather, Angie, Tom, Tim, Michelle, Sheila, Bill, and Brian; and many great nieces and nephews

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 6 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
