Elizabeth "Anne" Whitt Spencer was born in Athens, Alabama, on November 11,1927, the third daughter of Roy and Alma Whitt. She went to be with her Lord on January 2, 2020, at the age of 92. She lived at home until her death which was her wish. Anne married her high school sweetheart, Roy Spencer, after he completed his degree at the United States Naval Academy. They had a military ceremony in Athens and were married for 28 years before his death in 1981. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her two sisters, Virginia Poole (Albert) and Inez Stewart (Bob). She is survived by her daughter, Kathy; her son, Steve (Lynne); her grandchildren, Dylan Spencer (Sarah) and Emily Spencer; and her nephew, Mitch Poole (Becky). Anne graduated from Jefferson Hillman Nursing School (now UAB) in 1948 and worked as a pediatric nurse in both Washington, DC, and Birmingham. She was a long-time active member of McElwain Baptist Church where she taught kindergarten and children's Sunday School. She was a wonderful wife and mother, but her favorite title was "Bamaw", which was her grandchildren's pet name for her. She was an avid Alabama football fan and an avid Auburn basketball fan. Visitation will be at McElwain Baptist Church (4445 Montevallo Road; Birmingham, AL 35213) on Monday, January 6, 2020, from 12:30-2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are being handled by Johns Ridouts Southside Chapel (2116 University Boulevard, Birmingham, AL 35233).
