Anthony William Stremic  (April 19, 1935 - November 19, 2019)

Anthony W. Stremic, 84, former professional services consultant in Information Systems/Information Technology with KSJ & A, Inc. of Falls Church, VA died on November 19, 2019 at Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center. Mr. Stemic was born in Mt. Carmel, PA and was raised in Glenside, PA. He attended Cheltenham High School in Elkins Park, PA and then Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA where he excelled in academics and was active in football and wrestling (All-Philadelphia in 1952 in football; District and Regional wrestling champion in 1951, 1952, and winner of two National Wrestling Championships in 1953 and 1954) prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy in 1954.

Mr. Stremic graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in the top 10% of his class. While at the Academy, Mr. Stremic excelled in football and wrestling and won the Naval Academy sword his senior year as the outstanding athlete of his class. He was names honorable mention as a two-way lineman on the All-American football team in 1957, was named outstanding lineman in the 1958 Cotton Bowl game Navy vs. Rice and was selected to an All-Time Navy vs. Army team. As a heavyweight wrestler, he was second in the EIWA Championships in 1957 and 1958, and wrestling in the 191 lbs. weight class, he placed second in the NCAA Championships in 1957.

Mr. Stremic served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-1979 as an infantry officer and Research and Development officer and served in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division. He also was selected to numerous All-Marine and All-Service football teams during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Mr. Stemic also attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1966. Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Mr. Stremic was a program manager and professional services consultant in Weapons Systems Acquisition and Information Systems for several firms in the Northern Virginia area until full retirement in 2002.

Military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross.

Mr. Stremic was a long time member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, VA and current member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Haymarket, VA. Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Ughes of Norristown, PA; brother, Peter of Bensalem, PA; daughter, Lynn Johnson (Chris Payne) of Gainesville, VA; son David Stremic (Maria) of Round Hill, VA; and two granddaughters, Kelly and Meghan Johnson.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service and military honors on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Stremic’s name to the American Heart Association. (www.Heart.org) or Friends of Homeless Animals (www.FOHA.org) in Aldie, VA.
