Obituary (MI): Mrs. Marilyn (William R. Quasney '54)

Marilynn Quasney  (December 30, 1933 - October 9, 2019)

Marilynn Quasney (nee Grodzicki) was born in East Chicago, Indiana on 30 December 1933, the first child of Joseph and Pauline Grodzicki. She attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Grade School in East Chicago and Bishop Noll Catholic High School in Hammond, Indiana. Following graduation in 1951, she worked in various positions while attending college classes at Indiana University. On 17 July 1952, Marilynn married 2nd Lieutenant William Quasney after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. Their first child, Michael was born in May 1955, and was followed by three more boys, Thomas, John, and William (Chip). During the following years, Marilynn managed the family through assignments to Arizona, Illinois, Main, Texas, Michigan, California, Kansas, Ohio, including a full year (1968-1969) during her husband's assignment to Vietnam. During the assignment to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, she served as President of the U of M Military Officers Wives Club. Marilynn resumed her education at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and graduated in 1977 with a BS degree in Special Education L.D., Cum Laude. She taught children with special needs at Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio for three years during which she received numerous accolades for her work. She joined her husband in Michigan after his Air Force retirement, and continued teaching as a substitute teacher for several years in the Bloomfield Hills, MI education system. She was a member of The Village Club, the Sisters of Charity, the Arizona Boulders Women's Golf Club, and the St. Regis Women's Golf Group. Marilynn enjoyed bridge, gardening, golfing, and being with her four sons, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, as well as spending time in her second home in Arizona. Loving wife of William for 65 years. Dear mother of Michael (Mary), Thomas (Judit), John, and William "Chip" (Tara). Dear grandmother of Erin, Evan, Rebecca, Daniel, Ava, and Genevieve. Great grandmother of Etta, August, Griffin, Julian, and Aiden. Sister of Ruth Dodson (Lance).
