Obituary (LA): Mrs. Nadine (Richard L. Larsen '52)

Posted on 12/26/2018

Nadine Edna Haas Larsen

Nadine Larsen was raised on a Kansas wheat farm and traveled the globe as the wife of a Navy officer. Shortly after Richard Lee Larsen ("Dick") graduated from The U.S. Naval Academy, Nadine and Dick met on a blind date in Long Beach, California. They married a few months later in 1955.

Nadine was born February 11, 1929 in Enterprise, Kansas to Carl Haas and Edna Gantenbein Haas. She died December 17, 2018.

Nadine raised four children while enjoying a busy life as an officer's wife. Her favorite duty posts were San Diego, West Point, and Pearl Harbor. After Dick retired from the Navy, they settled in Dick's hometown of Houston. In the 1970's, they spent three adventurous years in Tehran before moving to Katy, Texas where Nadine worked for the Spring Branch Independent School District. When Dick retired as the Director of Public Works for the City of Bellaire, they moved to Alexandria, LA. In Alexandria, Nadine enjoyed volunteering with her St. James Altar Guild team and at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Nadine is survived by her four children, Kristina McBride (Thomas), Rick Larsen (Susana), Rebecca Warren, and Gretchen Larsen Godbee (John); and six grandchildren, Lesley Warren, Emily Warren, Larsen McBride, Rebecca McBride, Alexandra Larsen and Nicholas Larsen.

The family would like to thank Guardian Hospice, Missy Funderburk, Florida Jasper and Ora Anderson for their kindness and support of their mother.

The family requests that memorials be made to the St. James Altar Guild, 1620 Murray St., Alexandria, LA 71301.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church, Alexandria, LA under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.

Visitation will be in the Parish Hall from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.
