Obituary (MA): Jacob Green '46

Posted on 11/14/2018

Jacob "Jack" Green, 94, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. He was born in Bessemer, Alabama, and was the son of Beatrice Katz Green and Nathan Green. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife of nearly 68 years, Myrna Sharaf Green, and his children Richard (Judith Warnement) Green, Douglas Green, Emily Green (Jeffrey) Caplan, and Caroline Green. He was also the proud grandfather of Lucy Caplan and Laurel Caplan. He leaves a sister, Janis Blumberg. Jack graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946, and was a member of the Harvard Law School Class of 1950. He served honorably in several capacities with respect to World War II and the Korean War, and also served as the legal officer at the Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Virginia. Jack was a corporate and tax attorney, specializing in trust and estate matters. His clients appreciated his hard work and commitment on their behalf, and they valued and depended upon his wise counsel and expertise over many years. When he wasn't working, he loved to take walks at Larz Anderson Park and the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, watch Sunday afternoon football games, and listen to Red Sox games on a radio perched on the windowsill as he caught some sun in his backyard. An avid reader of biography and history, he carefully followed national and world events as they unfolded over the 20th century, and he regularly attended a lecture series on foreign relations at the Boston Public Library. As his health declined, Jack was cared for by a number of devoted caregivers, and, in his final months, by the dedicated hospice nurses at VNA Care. His family is most appreciative, as this care allowed him to remain in his home, which he loved.Known variously as Jack, Daddy and Papa, he was a good and decent man, and he will be missed and remembered. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, November 11, at 12:00pm, at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Burial to follow. Memorial observance will be held on Sunday only at the home of Richard Green from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Jewish Chapel at the United States Naval Academy, 326 First Street, Suite 22, Annapolis, MD 21403.
