Obituary (CA): William Henry Langenberg '51

William H. Langenberg  (August 26, 1928 ~ February 1, 2018)

Resident of Alamo, California

Raised in New Jersey, Bill graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951. He completed five years on active duty at sea, including combat deployment during the Korean War. After resigning his regular commission, Bill served continuously in the Navy Reserve, retiring as a Rear Admiral, Upper Half, in 1983.

In civilian life, Bill earned an MBA degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. there he met and married his wife, the former Mary Budke, who gave birth to son Robert in 1960 and daughter Janet in 1962.

Bill pursued his career as executive and director of two major publicly owned home building companies, which took him and his family through tours in Arizona, Texas and finally California. He resigned from his last employer to found his own land development firm, Langen Corp., which was active in California and Alabama.

While serving as owner of his own company, Bill earned a BA degree from California State University Hayward, and an MA degree from University California at Davis, both in political science. In addition to being an active runner, fisherman, golfer, model airplane competitor, and glider pilot, he was also a widely published author on Military subjects.

Bill is survived by his brother Frederick of Pittsburgh, PA., wife of 60 years, Mary, son Robert of Montgomery, AL. and daughter Janet Schumacher of San Jose, CA.

A private memorial service will be held by the family who suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Navy Relief Society.
