Robert A. Correll, age 81, of Beacon Falls, formerly of Trumbull, peacefully passed away January 31, 2018, surrounded by his family. Born October 15, 1936, in Davenport, Iowa, to Lt. Col. Walter D. Correll, USA, and Alfreda Mulvihill Correll, he was the oldest of six children.

As a military dependent he attended thirteen schools in thirteen years throughout the country. In 1954 he graduated from Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954. He received a Presidential appointment to the United States Naval Academy in 1956 and graduated in 1960. As a submarine officer he served on the USS Dogfish and USS George Washington. He left active duty in 1967 as a Lieutenant Commander, and he served as the Executive Officer of the Naval Reserve Center in Bridgeport until 1974.

As a proud USNA alumnus, he actively supported their endeavors throughout his life. His thirty-year professional career focused on manufacturing and total quality management with the Remington Arms Corporation, the Warner Lambert Corporation (Schick Safety Razor), and the Duracell Corporation, from which he retired as Director of World Wide Engineering in 1999. His professional accomplishments were exceeded only by his philanthropic works.

He was a founding member and president of the Parents' Foundation for Transitional Living (PFFTL), a transitional living facility for individuals living with mental illness). He later served as the CT President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). He was appointed to the State Board of Mental Health by then-Governor M. Jodi Rell. He spent his latter years as the CT NAMI liaison for US military veterans at the Errera Community Care Center in West Haven, CT.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nancy Lovely Correll, and his children, John Correll of Waynesboro, PA; Kathleen Correll of Milford; Mary Eichenbaum and her husband, Todd, of Oxford; Anne Correll of Madison; Colleen Brower and her husband, Jon, of Middlebury; Meghan Chamberlin and her husband, Ted, of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by his siblings Walter Correll and his wife, Susan, of San Diego, CA; Kay Correll and her spouse, Michelle Bailey, of Maricopa, AZ; Debra Correll of Fair Oaks, CA; and Sandra Correll of Anacortes, WA. He is further survived by his beloved grandchildren Alexandra, Timothy, and Jack Correll; Joshua, Jacob, and Matthew Eichenbaum; Luke Brower; and Tessa Chamberlin. He was predeceased by his brother Bill.

Nothing brought him more happiness and joy than being with his wife and family. Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend will be remembered as a gentleman's gentleman. His warmth, kindness and empathy endeared him to all whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to have known him.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit staffs of Griffin Hospital and Waterbury Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Errera Community Care Center (erreraccc.com), and NAMI Connecticut (namict.org).
