Obituary (VA): John Joseph Sheahan '61

Posted on 01/09/2019

John Joseph (Jack) Sheahan, 82 of Gainesville, VA suddenly passed away on January 4, 2019. Born in New York City, Jack was the beloved and devoted husband of Victoria Rose Sheahan.

Jack attended Bishop Louglhin High School in Brooklyn. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps prior to his senior year, where his life-long love of our country and the US Marines began.

Jack was extremely honored by the fleet appointment he received from the Marine Corps. to the US Naval Academy. While at the Academy, he successfully led the 21st Company as Color Company Commander. During his service, he created treasured friendships with fellow Midshipmen and Marines, which he proudly nurtured through his lifetime.

It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, Vicki Rose Kenny, whom he married in 1965 in Baltimore, MD. In 1972, Jack and Vicki moved to Littleton, CO where they settled and raised their four children, Traci, Tricia, John and Brian.

In the early 1990s, Jack and Vicki relocated to Northern, VA. Jack partnered with his son, Brian, to create their business, Architectural Products, Inc. Working alongside Brian was one of Jack's greatest pleasures. For more than 25 years, they cultivated a beautiful relationship and a successful business.

Jack, lovingly known as Pappy, lived his life with an abundance of love, honesty, loyalty and optimism. His friendships were sacred to him. He lived with a hearty laugh, a twinkle in his eye and a keen ability of making anyone in his presence feel special. His sense of humor was quick on the uptake with no subtleties escaping him.

Jack’s proudest accomplishment was his family. Nothing gave him more joy than reminiscing about the shenanigans of the past and watching a new generation of Sheahan memory-makers in his eight grandchildren. Jack was always up for late-night philosophical discussions over a glass of wine. His wit and perspective will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife, Vicki, Jack is survived by his adoring children and their spouses: Traci and Stuart Hall, Tricia and Tom Murphy, John and Jody Sheahan and Shannon Sheahan. In addition, he leaves behind his eight grandchildren, Jack, Bridie, Patrick, Declan, Brian, Judith, Conor and Flynn. He is also survived by his brother, Michael.

Jack is predeceased by his parents, his brother Billy and his beloved son, Brian. Despite the deep sadness and void felt with Jack’s passing, the idea of Jack reuniting with Brian and his other loved ones brings great comfort.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Gainseville, VA. A private internment at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD will be held at a later date.
