Obituary (FL): John Joseph Lorden '66

Posted on 12/05/2018

John Lorden  (July 24, 1944 - November 29, 2018)

Proud Irishman dies in the arms of his one true love.

If love was water, John Lorden was Christopher Columbus. JB (short for Johnny Boy) will be most treasured in the hearts of those closest to him for discovering ways to love us further and harder then we could have ever imagined possible. His love was truly remarkable.

John was born in the Bronx NY on July 24, 1944 to his proud parents, John and Dorothy. He was the second of six children - Dorothy Telesco, Christine Litchfield, Patricia Hinkley, Ann Callan, Mary Doepke, and Peggy Vincento. With five sisters he often found himself in a position he thrived in...surrounded by the wit of beautiful women. He used the skills he developed in this environment, and, literally, the picture of this long line of sisters to land the most beautiful and sweet woman he'd ever meet, Sandy Lorden, in the kitchen of a random house party in Boston, one fateful night in the summer of 1967.

Sandy and John shared an adorable love for each other for 48 years. The depth of their love would never have been realized had it not been for their shared commitment to put God first. This shared faith moved mountains in their life and surrounded them with like-minded people that painted their life with a landscape that Bob Ross himself would have been inspired by.

JB's accomplishments were many. From earning Eagle Scout, playing basketball against Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to earning an appointment to and attending the US Naval Academy, he never found an obstacle he couldn't fearlessly approach. After serving his duty as a Lieutenant on the USS Dealey, Dad then earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Then life got real.... John's path, like yours and mine, was paved with ups and downs. On this path his faith and constant self-analysis generated a deep desire to help others. Specifically, he wanted to help others during the dark times of their careers. He guided hundreds to realize their greatest strengths, and to leverage those strengths to confront their shadow and grow as individuals. He did this with his Management Consulting Company named The Jeremiah Group, based out of Merrimack NH.

It was here in Merrimack that he and Sandy raised three sons - Joshua, Nicholas, and Timothy. His constant affirming love and "old-school" parenting eventually landed all three of these boys at US Service Academies. Joshua and Nicholas at USNA, in Annapolis MD and Timothy at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Aside from being sober for 39 years and a playful grandfather to five fireball grandchildren, Lily, Nola, Liam, Anna, and Xander, he was most proud of these accomplishments.

Our proud Irishman will be honored this Wednesday, December 5th from 9-10:30 am at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home. This will be followed by a service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda at 11am. We are all comforted that John is home with all of his heroes, and if you'd like to say goodbye, we'd love to have your company!
