Posted on 11/16/2018

Ronald Clinton Hudgens (December 19, 1932 - October 15, 2018)

We mourn the loss of a most wonderful, vibrant and loving person, Ronald (Ron) Clinton Hudgens. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan and passed away in Loveland, Colorado on October 15, 2018, surrounded by family.

We also celebrate his amazing life. How blessed we are to have had him in our lives. He was a family man, a friend and a mentor. Known and loved for his genuine affection for people, his warm and embracing personality, his generosity, his humility, his commitment to family and his love of the arts. His charismatic, intelligent, engaging, witty personality was a bright light for those around him.

Ron was a proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a retired Navy officer. After active duty, he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and practiced intellectual property law. He was the head of intellectual property law at Owens Corning Fiberglas for many years and retired from Agilent Technology. Following retirement, he was a mediator for small claims courts in Loveland, Longmont and elsewhere. He loved the law and had a superb mind for all things legal.

Energetic and physically active, Ron was an undefeated boxer at the Naval Academy, an 11x marathon runner and took yoga classes. He proudly served our country as an officer in the Navy and he served as a mentor to young attorneys and technical people while practicing law. Locally he volunteered for the Loveland sculpture show. He was also a founder and creator of Purrfectly Gigi, calendars and cards that feature his special companion cat Gigi and support lung cancer research in honor of his beloved late wife, Dorothy.

As a dad he taught the importance of character, honesty, work and personal ethics, and compassion. He always supported individuality, creativity and the pursuit of passions. His love of art, design and music was infectious and will stay with us always. Importantly he showed how to face challenges with strength, determination and grace. He exemplified strength in heart, mind and character.

Ron was preceded in death by Dorothy, his dear wife of 57 years, his parents, Clinton and Dorothy Hudgens, sister Kate Heikkinen, nephew Sven Heikkinen, as well as other close relatives. His is survived by his daughters; Meredith (Jeremiass) Perez, Reagan Hudgens and Colby Hudgens, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Kim Hudgens, cats Gigi and Peach, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

We thank the friends, acquaintances and family members that gave Ron friendship, love and support throughout the years, especially over the last several years. Kind gestures, small or large, can make such a difference in another person’s life.

Ron Hudgens was loved, admired and respected, his positive impact was significant and will live on. We will cherish and miss him always.
