Obituary (OR): Duane Floyd Greenhoe '57

Duane F. Greenhoe  (April 12, 1932 -- September 15, 2018)

The family of Duane F. Greenhoe is sorry to announce the passing of Duane. He was a wonderful husband and father. He will be missed by both his family and friends. Duane had an illustrious career serving his country for twenty-nine years in the United States Navy. Duane graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned Ensign, U.S. Navy in June 1957. The start of his naval career was aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Leyte, after which he attended Submarine School. Upon graduating from Submarine School he served aboard the USS Corporal. His next step in the Navy was to attend Polaris Weapon School after which he served on the USS Boliva as Weapons Officer. This lead him to join the crew of the USS Blueback as the Executive Officer, prior to taking over command of the USS Bonefish. Duane then completed a tour on the Staff of Commander Submarine Squadron One. In the later part of his career, Captain Greenhoe graduated from the National War College prior to reporting to OPNAV where he served as Head Submarine System Branch for the Director, Naval Warfare. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Naval Guided Missiles School. His last assignment was to command the USS Denver LPD-9.During his naval career Duane was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with a bronze star, the Navy Commendation Medal with two bronze stars and Combat "V", the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal with bronze star, and the Vietnam Service medal with three bronze stars. He is survived by his wife, Russell "Neenie" Greenhoe; two sons, Skipper and Douglas Greenhoe; grandchildren, Kailey and Dan Greenhoe.
