Obituary (FL): Michael Robert Jacqmin '63

Posted on 09/04/2018

Michael (Mike) R. Jacqmin, surrounded by his family, peacefully passed away in Tampa, FL on August 25, 2018. Mike was born on August 20, 1941 in Green Bay, WI to Robert H. Jacqmin and Mary Vionne Jacqmin. Mike lived a great life. He was very proud of his family, his time in the Navy, his career in business and his ongoing commitment to community service and the church. He accomplished great things, but was always humble in doing so. Mike's parents owned a local grocery store in Green Bay and he spent his early years working at the store in between school, sports and boating. He decided to attend the Naval Academy in 1959 and went on to spend 6 years as the Nuclear Engineering Officer for the submarine force, primarily the SSBN 609 Sam Houston. Early on during his time in the Navy, Mike met the love of his life, Donna (Jacqmin). Donna was a nurse in New London, Ct. and Mike was stationed there. Donna and Mike married in 1967 and went on to have 4 children (Peter, Jeff, Sarah and Andy). Mike and Donna were happily married ever since, celebrating 51 years in January. In 1969, Mike made a "family" decision to leave the Navy (leaving behind extended deployments) to go to UPenn – Wharton School of Business to get his MBA. He went on from there to work in public accounting for Arthur Andersen, become the Controller for Purdue Chicken, and then on to General Signal where he was held various positions including Treasurer and Subsidiary President. Mike retired to Florida in 1997 to do all the things he always wanted to do. Mike and Donna spent much of their retirement years traveling the globe. They had always talked about traveling during retirement and they took advantage of every opportunity they had to do so. Those who knew Mike knew that he was outgoing, friendly and loved to spend time with friends and family. Much of Mike and Donna's travels included traveling with some of their closest friends. One of Mike's other favorite hobbies became golf. Mike was too busy during his working years to play golf, but he developed a passion for it in retirement. In addition to playing regularly with his local friends, Mike took many golf trips with both friends and family. More than anything, Mike loved his family. Mike is survived by his wife Donna, his sisters Julie, Sue, Cathy and Mary and his brother Bob, his four children, and nine grandchildren (Paige, Alex, Lauren, Chase, James, Gavin, Steven, Lily and Kate). Mike will always be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, mentor and friend. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter The Apostle on September 8, 2018 in Trinity, FL at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mike's honor to the St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Peter the Apostle Conference at 12747 Interlaken Road, Trinity, FL 346557259. Upcoming Events Memorial service Sep 08 11:00 AM St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church 12747 Interlaken Road Trinity, FL, US, 34655
