Madison McDonald "Mack" Daily Sr., of Rolla, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on February 16, 1932 to the late Robert Bates Daily and Faune (Young) Daily. On July 25, 1954 he married Mary Matilda Emde and they were later blessed with four children. Mack graduated from the Naval Academy in 1954 . Because the Air Force was still a new branch, the service academies asked for volunteers to become officers and he became a second lieutenant in the USAF. Mack's career included being stationed at Scott AFB, IL; March AFB, CA; Wright Patterson AFB, OH; Patrick AFB, FL; Los Angeles Air Station, CA, head of the AFROTC at the University of Missouri at Rolla, and Andrews AFB where he worked both at the base and the Pentagon. While at the Los Angeles Air Station he completed his Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering at UCLA. During his years in the Air Force Mack was instrumental in the US satellite program where he worked to launch and set up satellite stations around the globe. He was also present for the trial run of the Space Shuttle in Nevada. Upon retiring in 1980, Mack spent two years at Hughes Aircraft in California. His Midwest roots as a Oklahoma boy led him back to Rolla where he was the first PhD graduate from the Engineering management department at the University of Missouri at Rolla. Mack taught in the Engineering Management department at UMR and upon retiring was active in the local Rotary Club, serving as an usher at the United Methodist Church, and walking at the Rolla recreation center. In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Daily, and two sisters, Betty Cook and Sally Grossman. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Daily, of Rolla; four children, Karen Clifford and husband Tim, of Granger, IN, Kristy Defenbaugh and husband Brad, of The Woodlands, TX, Mac Daily Jr. and wife Karen, of Rolla, and Bonnie Faune Daily, of McKinney, TX; one brother, Bill Daily, of Midland, TX; a sister, Mary Ellen Anders, of San Jose, CA; four grandchildren, Scott Clifford and wife Emily, Kayleigh Defenbaugh, Adam Daily and Lou Daily; one great grandchild, Isla Clifford; other extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mack Daily will be held at 11 am Friday, August 3, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 am. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Miner Alumni Association, 1100 North Pine St, Rolla, MO 65409.
