Melvin H. Dennis passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 in Covington, LA. He was born on August 3, 1932 in New Orleans, LA. Melvin was an only child and preceded in death by his parents. Melvin was married to his beloved wife, the late Jean Guess Dennis, for 58 years. He was the loving father of Mark Dennis (Kathy), Judy Burley (Scott) and Michelle "Missy" Chatelain (Kim). Melvin was the proud grandfather of Kyle and Kevin Chatelain, Olivia Bertucci (Ryan), Jeffrey Burley (Blake) and Babs Burley. Melvin was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of Marion Military Institute in Selma, AL and attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He was a parishioner of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mandeville, LA and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12072. Melvin was a self-employed manufacturer’s representative and worked with some of the largest contractors in the New Orleans area such as Gibbs Contruction and DonahueFavret Contractors to name a few. His hobbies included fishing at his camp on the Jourdan River in Mississippi, playing ping-pong at the Mandeville Senior Center, and participating in the Northshore Men’s Group for their monthly luncheons. A Memorial Service will be held privately by the family. Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
