Jean Holm Laferty  (July 29, 1941--June 28, 2018)

Jean Holm Laferty, Age 76, who was raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada passed away on June 28, 2018, in Annapolis, Maryland.  Jean was a Severna Park, Maryland resident for over 30 years. She is survived by her children Stephen (Peggy) and Pamela (Jay) of Maryland and Maureen (Dan) of Rhode Island; and her siblings Carl Holm of Halifax, John Holm of Sackville, and Ruth Smith of Thunder Bay, Ontario.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Craig and her two sisters-in-law and good friends Betty (Craig) and Cheryl (Tom). She was predeceased by her husband John Denison "Denny" Laferty, her parents, Rev. Carl Holm and Rhoda (Walkey) and sister Mary Smith of St. John, New Brunswick. Jean met Denny, "her person", a U.S. Naval Aviator from Towson, Maryland, at a college dance in Halifax in 1961 and they were married by her father at St. John's Anglican Church, Halifax in February 1962.  Jean and Denny began their life of adventure together by leaving Halifax in a snowstorm driving an Austin Healey sports car.  During their 47 happy years together, they moved seven times during his naval and corporate career.  Jean was a loving and much loved mother to her children and grandmother to her five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Andrew, Joseph, Gillian, and Alaina.  Jean was a loving, playful, gracious, intelligent, and courageous woman who was true to herself, her family, and friends to the end. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on July 11, 2018 from 7-9PM at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD, 21146. She will be interred on July 12, 2018 at 2:30PM with her late husband at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
