William Howard Purdy (January 10, 1943 - June 30, 2018)
William Howard Purdy, 75 years young, of Forest, died Saturday, June 30, 2018. He was the loving husband to Sherry Z. Purdy for over 49 years.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 10, 1943, he was a son of the late William Henry Purdy and the late Anne Hamilton Purdy. William was preceded in death by his brothers James Charles Purdy and Roger Daniel Purdy.
William was a 1961 graduate of Monroeville High School, attended Lynchburg College, and received his Bachelors of Science from the US Naval Academy in 1965. William was also a US Navy Vietnam Veteran serving on the USS Quillback and the USS Lafayette. He also was employed with B&W for 33 years.
Bill loved the Lord and attended Mountain View UMC. He enjoyed making a joyful noise unto the Lord in choir, multiple committees and functions in church and his community.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son William Howard “Howie” Purdy, Jr.; his daughter, Kathryn Michelle “Kathy” Purdy; his sister, Jane Irene Purdy; and his nieces, Leslie Santos and Samantha “Sam” Konecny.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The funeral service will be held at Mountain View UMC on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
