Obituary (MD): Michael James Foley '83

Michael Foley  (AUGUST 30, 1961 – JUNE 18, 2018)

After a valiant battle with cancer, Michael James Foley (Mike) age 56 of Catonsville, MD passed away on 18 June 2018.

Mike was born in New London, Connecticut 30 August 1961 to W. Robert (Bob) and Nancy Hopkins Foley. He grew up in the Upper Valley, New Hampshire before going to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated with a degree in Physics before going on to the Naval Post Graduate School. Mike had an illuminating 25 years in the United States Marine Corps which included being stationed all over the US and abroad, as well as two tours in Iraq. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2008 and continued to protect the US by joining the cybersecurity industry. With this new adventure he was able to make new and very lasting friendships as well as expand his circle of impact. He continued working in this industry until his diagnosis with soft tissue sarcoma caused his journey to come to a stop. Mike was a big supporter of the fight against cancer and was a very active participant in Team in Training where he ran countless miles to battle leukemia and lymphoma. He was an active member of his church and enjoyed playing guitar in the praise band. He was able to pass peacefully at home surrounded by family and the knowledge that he was going home to be with the Lord.

Mike is survived by his daughters Lauren Foley, and her husband Jeremy Peloquin, and Meaghan Foley. Mike is also survived by his Sister Maureen Foley. Mike is predeceased by his parents Bob and Nancy Foley, brother Patrick Foley, and brother-in-law John Fitzgerald.

Visitation will be held at Sterling-Ashton Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home in Catonsville, MD from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday 22 June 2018. Service will be held at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Ellicott City, MD at 1:00PM on Saturday 23 June 2018.
