Obituary (TX): Thomas Henry Cooper III '44

Thomas Henry Cooper, III passed away peacefully at his residence on June 4, 2018. Born in Cooper, WV in 1920, he was the son of the late Thomas H. Cooper, Jr. and Susan Dodson Yaple Cooper. He grew up in Bluefield, WV and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1940. He graduated with the Class of 1944 and participated in nine major battle campaigns in the Pacific during World War II. He was an active Mason since 1960 and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a York Rite Mason. Thomas retired from the Navy in March 1968 and was later employed by McDonald Douglas Aircraft as Senior Service Representative, Product Support at NAS Corpus Christi. In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his beloved wife Claire W. Cooper and his brother, William Y. Cooper. He is survived by his four daughters, Kathryn Burns and her husband Richard of Rosemont, PA, Nancy Grim of Myrtle Beach, SC, Hope Cooper of Corpus Christi and Marilyn Quance and her husband Tony of Palm Harbor, Fl; 3 grandchildren, Thomas Grim (Brandi), Kevin Burns (Adriana) and Ellen Rubino (Mike) and 5 great-grandchildren, Madison Grim, Christine Burns, Sophia Burns, Leah Rubino and Lauren Rubino. Thomas was a long-time member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi. He was a kind, loving and generous man who always put the needs of others above his own, and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home, from 10AM to 11AM. Following visitation, a Military graveside service will be celebrated at 11:30AM at Seaside Memorial Park.
