Maj. Charles Arlington Dittmar, Jr. (Ret.) passed away at home on his 72nd birthday, May 14, 2018. The 7th child of Rev. and Mrs. Charles A. Dittmar, he was born in Port Hueneme, CA in 1946. He is preceded in death by his mother, Anne Dittmar, his father, Charles A., his stepmother, Amy Dittmar and sisters, Barbara Merritt, Jocelyn Wentworth, Jacquelyn Cofer and Charlotte Leavitt. He is survived by his cherished wife of 48 years, Ceci Conaty Dittmar, his brother John Dittmar of Utah and his sister, Kitty Norton of Maine. He leaves behind four children, Mrs. Holly Diaz, and husband Daniel, Mr. Josh Dittmar, and wife Christa, Mrs. Jessica Walvaag, and husband Tommy, Mrs. Ellen Benson, and husband Brad, and 19 grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. A 1968 graduate of the Naval Academy, he proudly served 20 years in the US Marine Corps as an AH-1J Sea Cobra helicopter pilot, test pilot and engineer. After his military career, he worked for Tech Marine Business. Upon retirement, he relocated from Chantilly, VA to McCormick, SC. He spent his final years playing golf with Ceci and enjoying the view from the 9th tee box in Savannah Lakes Village. An American patriot with a true servant's heart, he will be missed by all, especially the Dittmar and Conaty clans. He leaves a legacy of Christian faith and love that lives on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. A reception will be held at the home of Barb and Harry Shelley following the service: 143 Ashland Drive. A military memorial service and interment will be held at the The Naval Academy in July 2018.
