Bruce W. Plomasen, An Officer and a Gentleman, (Age 96) USN (Ret)
Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21st 2018. He was a Naval Academy graduate, class of 1944, and a retired Lieutenant Commander who served for 20 years. He received Word War ll, Korean War and Vietnam War service ribbons.
Bruce was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. It was while serving in the Navy that he met his wife Julia in Athens, Greece in 1950. After retiring from the Navy, he settled and raised a family in Potomac, MD, working for VITRO for 20 years as a Naval Engineer. He then enjoyed a wonderful retirement in Bethany Beach Delaware where he was able to enjoy his love of reading, long walks and his passion for travel. He looked forward to visits from friends, family, and particularly his grandchildren.
Along with his wife Julia, he was a founding member and faithful steward of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda, MD, and was later active at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Ocean City, MD.
He is remembered as a kind, gentle, patient and dignified man who was devoted to his family and was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure to know him.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Julia, as well as three daughters, Marcia Irwin (Phil), Diana Kollecas (Tom) and Sylvia Delong (Scott); four grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Julienne and Madeleine, as well as his sister, Jeanne Keith of Takoma, WA.
A private service was held at St. Magdalene and Markella Greek Orthodox Church in Darlington, MD.
