Ruth Zapp Lide, 92, passed away May 22, 2018.

A private Ceremony of Inurnment for the family will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church Columbarium on Tuesday, May 29 at 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life service following at 2:00pm in the sanctuary.

Ruth was born May 30, 1925 in Newark, NJ. Her parents were Edmund L Zapp and Augusta Rose Zapp. She graduated from Palmyra, N.J. high school and from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She worked as a medical librarian for Hoffman-LaRoch Pharmaceuticals until her marriage.

Ruth married Theodore (Ted) E Lide, Jr of Greenville, S.C. on June 4, 1949, the day after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. This marriage lasted a wonderful 69 years. They both loved to travel and had many great trips to all parts of the world.

Ted resigned from the Navy in 1954 and they settled in Madison, N.C. for the next 25 years. There, Ruth was active in her church holding positions as teacher and a member of many church groups, served on the Madison Library Board, worked with the Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts, and a member of the Junior and Senior Service Leagues. She was especially proud of her work with the Western Rockingham County Clothing Closet which provided clothing for needy families.

In 1984, the family moved to Greensboro. Here she was active in Christ United Methodist Church serving on several committees, Chairman of The “Reach Out” for shut-ins and Circle Chairman of Circle One. She was a member of the Greensboro Lecture League. Ruth also helped her husband in their travel agency.

She is survived by her husband and three loving children; Theodore E Lide, III in Matthews, NC, Meredith Lide Schoonmaker and husband Grant of Charlotte, NC, and Michael E Lide and wife Tammy of Jamestown, NC. Six grandchildren; Michelle Lide Moore (Brandon), Stephanie Lide Dye (Derek), Grant Schoonmaker, III, Megan Schoonmaker, Nathan Lide, and Sarah Lide. One Great-grandchild, Greyson Dye. Her sister-in-law, Cynthia Zapp, brother-in-law DeVane Lide, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Edmund L Zapp of Quakertown, PA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Church Hunger Fund or the Minister’s Discretionary Fund, 410 N Holden Rd Greensboro, NC 27410.
