Joseph William "Bill" Sherar  (September 27, 1930 - May 21, 2018)

Joseph William “Bill” Sherar passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018. He was born on September 27, 1930 in Fresno, California, United States. Son of Joseph William Garland and Verna Irene (Kneeland) Sherar.

Bill Sherar was an insurance broker, investor, research director avid sailor, pilot, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Member: Who’s Who in the World 1995, Maritime Law Association, Young President's Organization (chairman Louisiana chapter 1978-1979), United States Naval Academy Alumni Association (president New Orleans chapter 1963), S.R., Sons of the American Revolution (president George Washington chapter 1994), Colonial Wars Society Louisiana (treasurer 1978-1979), Delta Theta Phi (life). Bachelor of Science, United States Naval Academy, 1952. Juris Doctor, Loyola University, New Orleans, 1965.

Commissioned ensign United States Navy, 1952, advanced through grades to lieutenant (LCDR), Destroyer officer, Naval aviator, landing signal officer, Aide to Vice Admiral James Thatch, Com Huk Lant, Flight instructor Saufley Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, service out 1962.

Step Children: Harriet Fullington, Angelle Vinet and Rhonda Vinet. Eight Grand Children and One Great Grand Child. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Verna Sherar and his sister Laurel Williams.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 until noon, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church; 125 E. 19th Ave, Covington, LA 70433 followed by a Funeral Mass at noon.

Burial will follow in the Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery; 75376 River Rd., Saint Benedict, LA 70457.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Mr. Sherar to be made to St. Joseph Abbey.
