Carolyn C. Laning  (August 29, 1927 May 5, 2018)

Carolyn C. Laning, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2018, at Centre Crest, in Bellefonte, after a long illness. She was born August 29, 1927, in Pottsville. She was the daughter of Jacob Allen Coleman and Hattie Jane Stutzman and a graduate of Pottsville High School, in Pottsville. Her first job after high school was at Western Union in Annapolis, Md., where she met and subsequently married, on October 5, 1946, the love her life, Retired Cdr. George H. Laning, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, who preceded her in death after 50 beautiful years of marriage. She was the loving mother of two daughters: Linda Laning Shearman, of Irvine, Calif., and Donna Laning Erdman, of Centre Hall. Carolyn is also survived by five grandchildren: Heather Erdman, Gregory Erd- man, Melissa Shearman Falco, Kathryn Shearman, and Kyle Shearman. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Alexander Erdman, Cameron Erdman, Olivia Erdman, Francesca Falco and Gabriella Falco. Carolyn was a beautiful woman with many talents. She was a creative seamstress, gourmet cook, and avid gardener. She loved to read, play golf, bowl and was active in the Riverton, N.J. Porch Club (a charitable organization). She also enjoyed the occasional trip to Atlantic City with her husband, George, sister, Harriett, and brother-in-law, Aaron Miller, of Reading. The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care that both Juniper Village at Wellspring and Centre Crest provided Carolyn during her illness. A private memorial service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery, with her deceased husband George, will be held at the convenience of the family.
