Obituary (UT): DeVon Charles Jensen '55

DeVon (De) Charles Jensen died on March 23, 2018. He was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 14, 1931, a son of William C. and E. Vivian Wahlstrom Jensen. He married Shirley M. Hawn in 1955.  They were divorced in 1979.  He then married Mary Louise Mitchell Carney in 1985.

DeVon graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State College, Utah State University, and attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  He worked his way through college at the O.U.R.&D. Company.  He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy with the SeaBees in the Philippines.

He was employed in Personnel or Human Resource Management with Continental Baking Company, Christensen Diamond Products, E Systems, Alta Industries, Natter Manufacturing and Texscan Corporation.  Both before and after retirement, he was a consultant to many fine companies.

DeVon was past president of the Utah Personnel Association (SHRM) and past president of the Mount Ogden Toastmasters Club (1614) and Deputy Governor.  He served in many positions with the Salt Lake Exchange Club and other civic organizations.  He was a life member of the Elks, BPOE 719.  He was a member of the Catholic Church.

He was known to occasionally swing a golf club, cast a fly upon the water, especially in Island Park, ID., and enjoyed hunting, camping, boating and other fun activities.

“Don’t mourn, just let me go.  I lived a life better than most.  Remember our love for each other.  The love didn’t leave with my body.”

He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Rochelle S. Jensen, Layton, UT; sons, Curtis C. (Mary) Jensen, Provo, UT; Darrin D. (Mary) Jensen, Clinton, UT,; step-daughter Patti (Chris) Zimmerman, Ogden, UT; stepsons, Richard (Lota) Carney, Ocean Park, WA and Mike Carney, LakeTahoe, NV; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Maythel Hawley, Pacific Beach, CA; and his wife, Mary Louise Mitchell Carney.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Leon (Noel) Jensen; brother, Lowell (Carol) Jensen.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 4, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 South, South Ogden, UT.

Inurnment at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
