Obituary (MD): Mrs. Jennifer (John T. Quinn '62)

Jennifer Jones Quinn, 75, a longtime resident of Severna Park, passed away the evening of April 2, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore. She was born on October 15, 1942 in Washington, DC and was raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1964 with a BS Biology/Zoology degree. She was a longtime member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and in 1983 she was the founding member and first President of the local Chesapeake Chapter. In 1968 she earned a MS Biology degree from San Diego State University. From 1968 to 1971 she was researcher in the Immunology Department at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. In 2010 she was recognized by the University of Michigan as a pioneer in women's college athletics, and was inducted into the Letterwinners M Club. Jennifer was married to John Thomas Quinn in December 1964 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, MD. She was a longtime member of the Chartwell Golf & Country Club. In recent years she enjoyed playing mahjong with a close group of friends and actively participating in the Chartwell Garden Club as a member and long time treasurer. While living in Annapolis from 1978 to 1983, she was President of the Amberley Garden Club. Jennifer and her husband Tom were also avid world travelers. Jennifer was a passionate sports fan. She loved watching football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, and golf. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams - Washington Redskins, Michigan Wolverines, and Naval Academy Midshipmen. She cherished the friendship and camaraderie of tailgating with friends, especially at many Navy Football and Lacrosse games. Above all things, Jennifer loved her family and friends deeply. She always kept the door open for any of her son's friends, creating a warm and inviting place for anyone to visit. She never forgot a birthday or a special occasion, and made sure that those celebrating received a card and warm wishes from her with lots of love. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, and doting 'nana.' to her four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Allison, who passed away in January 1981. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Commander John "Thomas" Quinn, USN (Ret.) of Severna Park; son, John Rowland Quinn (Amy) of Newport Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madeleine, Genevieve and John "Austin" Quinn; and brother, Rowland Jones III of Greensboro, GA. A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. A private interment will be held at the US Naval Academy Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her daughter Allison.
