Obituary (TX): Karl William Koch '57

Karl William Koch, 83, currently of Fredericksburg and Corpus Christi, TX, and previously of Wapakoneta, OH, died early in the morning of March 31, 2018 in Fredericksburg after a short illness.

Karl was born to Anna Louise Fisher Koch and George Henry Koch of Wapakoneta, OH on September 16, 1934. He attended school in Wapakoneta before attending Culver Military Academy, and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

He met his wife of 60 years at a formal party in Washington DC, Judy Ann Tilley. Karl and Judy were married on June 8, 1957 in the lower chapel at the Naval Academy the day after Karl graduated. Karl loved the Navy and remained in service until recalled home to take over the family business.

After successfully running the Lima Pepsi Cola plant, and upon its sale, Karl purchased a floundering Pepsi Plant in Corpus Christi, Texas and founded Oneta Company He expanded it to include Everest Water and Coffee, and Sunrise Canteen Vending in Corpus Christi and Victoria. To say he was successful is an understatement. He was also on the foundation board of Hill Country Memorial Hospital, and through his business supported the Corpus Christi Food Bank, American Cancer Society, and Special Olympics. He was a mentor and friend to many Oneta employees through the years.

Karl is survived by his wife Judy Ann (Tilley) Koch; Sisters Georgeanna (Koch) Anderson and Kristina Susan (Koch) Musselman Platt; Children Karla Ann (Koch) Seeton, Kimberly May Koch, and Julia (Koch) Kriegel and daughter in law Stephanie Koch Wilson (wife of son George Austin Koch, deceased); Grandchildren Ian Scott Dick, Rachel [Rae] Louise (Dick) Copeland, Karl Thomas Koch, Fisher Kenneth Koch, Chase Harrison Wilson, Judy Lea Koch, William Austin Koch, Angie Elizabeth Seeton, Ross Victor Seeton III, and Alexis Rose Seeton; and Great-grandchildren Sophie Mae Copeland and Tobias James Russell Copeland. Karl was preceded in death by his son, George Austin Koch as well as by his parents, George and Louise (Fisher) Koch.

A visitation will be held in Fredericksburg Texas at Schaetters Funeral home from 4-6 pm Wednesday April 4. A second visitation will be held in Corpus Christi Texas at Seaside Funeral home on Sunday April 8 from 4:30-8:00pm. Funeral Service will be held at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel on Monday April 9 at 12pm with graveside at 1pm in Seaside Memorial Park.
