ROBERT MCKAY WHITAKER (February 06, 1929 - March 21, 2018)
A native of Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Harry Whitaker, and his brother, Craig (Pat) Whitaker of Wallingford, PA. Bob attended Virginia Episcopal School and the U.S. Naval Academy. He enjoyed life as a skipper of many Naval vessels throughout a career that took him to exotic ports of call as well as those US based, retiring with the rank of Captain. He served his country well on land and sea for 30 years. He appreciated a good book, a well-made martini, the Sunday paper and a spirited conversation. Upon his retirement in Washington, D.C. he moved south where he enjoyed many years of golf and gardening in his Mobile home. A beloved father and husband, he is survived by his daughter, Sydney (Kevin) McGivern of Northfield, IL., and his wife, Barbara.
