Lt. Col. Michael Marriott, USMC (ret), 64, passed away, peacefully in Coronado, CA and was called home early on March 15th, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on December 22, 1953 in Herkimer, NY, to Robert and Barbara Marriott, "Snapper", graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1976 and earned a Master's Degree from the University of Southern California School of Systems Management. Mike was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1976, whereupon he initiated his successful career in Marine Aviation. His 26 years as a Marine included operational tours in the A-6 Intruder, graduation from the US Navy's Test Pilot School, in Patuxent River, flight test at VX-5 in China Lake, California, transition into the F/A-18 Hornet and ultimately Command of the Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 225: The Vikings.
Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Mike found his home in Coronado, California and remained there for the past sixteen years. He contributed his talents in the Defense Industry, but was best known for his coaching skills as a Level 1 CrossFit instructor. Always in top shape, Mike was quick to help others gain confidence and strength through his positive, encouraging and compassionate mentoring. He was an avid surfer, reveled in being with his grandchildren and enjoyed his music, mostly in playing the blues on his "harp". He and Mary enjoyed travel, experiencing amazing adventures wherever they went. Mike will always be known for his huge heart, his quick wit, vast generosity and long list of those who call him "friend". His positive attitude was ever contagious; he brought light where there often was none. He will be sorely missed.
Michael is survived by his wife, Mary Dinzik; his daughters, Lea Marriott, Deanna (Sam) Morrison, Michelle Marriott and Emily Hughes; three grandchildren, Ana Paige, Paul Abry and Stephen Michael Morrison; step-daughters, Emma and Olivia Cohn; sisters, Robyn Dussault and Lynn Marriott (Pia Nilsson); brother, Gary (Leann) Marriott; nieces, Kyle (Michael) Carinelli and Melissa Marriott; nephews, Matthew (Stephanie) Marriott and Zach (Meagan) Dussault.
