Ruth Newsom Gillmer (AUGUST 17, 1919 – FEBRUARY 7, 2018)
Ruth Newsom Gillmer, of Cary, NC, formerly of Annapolis, MD, died on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 98 years of age. Born in Lakeland, Florida, Mrs. Gillmer attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland and graduated from Grand Central School of Art in New York City. Mrs. Gillmer was employed for many years by the Evening Capital in Annapolis, MD and The Washington Star in Washington, DC. Mrs. Gillmer is the widow of Thomas C. Gillmer, naval architect and designer of the Pride of Baltimore. Mr. Gillmer died in 2009.Mrs. Gillmer is survived by twin sons, Albert G Williams of Cary, NC and Alvin F. Williams of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 stepchildren, Christina Gillmer Erdmann of Littleton, CO and Charles V. Gillmer of Reedville, VA.
