Bertrand Beasely Cassels, Jr. (Dec 6, 1937 - Mar 3, 2018)
Bertrand Beasely Cassels, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday March 3, 2018 at his home in Pawleys Island. He was born on December 6, 1937 in Seattle, Washington to the late Bertrand Beasley Cassels, Sr. & Fern Helen Maxson Cassels.
Bert was proud to serve his country as a United States Naval Officer following his dedication to his education. He graduated from Lakeside School in Seattle, in the class of 1956 and went on to the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated Class of 1961, 11th Company, continuing on to the University of Washington, Seattle where he joined the Delta Epsilon Kappa fraternity and finally, graduated from Naval War College, MS '73. The active man Bert was, he retired from a second career as Defense Contractor in Anti-Submarine Warfare. In his retirement, Bert’s greatest achievement was in organizing Honor Flight Myrtle Beach to fly WWII veterans to Washington for a day of Honor..
Bert was a former member of the Georgetown County Planning Commission. He was an active member of All Saints Church for 25 years and recently The Abbey, both of Pawleys Island.
Left to cherish Bert’s heroic memory is his beloved wife of 41 years, Georgene (GG) Cassels of Pawleys Island; his sister-in-law, JoJo Smoak (Rod McLaury) of Destin, FL.; nieces, Linsey Evans of Destin, FL. & Julie Bowyer (Sam) of Orlando, FL.; as well as many loving and supportive friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Bert’s life will be held on Friday March 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Abbey at Pawleys Island, in the sanctuary, 46 Gathering Ln, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions in Bert’s name may be made to: St. Frances Animal Center, 125 N. Ridge Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
