BARBARA THERESA MUSHALKO

Barbara passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2018 at age 82 after a six month struggle with cancer. She was born in Newark, NJ, on June 26, 1935 to the late Daniel and Grace DiTrolio. She was the beloved wife of 61 years to George Mushalko; dearly loved mother of Daniel Mushalko (Renee) and Lisa Glasgow (Mark) and loving grandmother of Devon Mushalko, Robert Glasgow, and Anzhella Glasgow. She was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Mushalko.

After attending Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross in Washington, DC, she married her Naval Academy sweetheart on December 1, 1956, the beginning of a near perfect union full of love and the joy of sharing all aspects of a wonderful life together. She enjoyed being an "Air Force wife," and especially being a grandmother. She received great joy in cooking, reading, British TV, Navy football tailgating, luncheons, Bible Study, and the Women's Christian Groups. She was a woman of deep faith who lived by the Spirit with a bright outlook on life, ever willing to help anyone anytime, with an endless love for her family and friends -- a true beacon of light and hope to her family and all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. at St Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306, followed at a later date by burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, from 5 to 8 p.m. on March 2, 2018. Parking is available.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Father Dort Bigg (St Louis Catholic Church), Capital Caring Hospice, Right at Home (home care and assistance), and especially Charlotte and Bridget from Right at Home for their deep caring and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's name to Sprout Therapeutic Riding and Education Center, P.O. Box 8, Aldie, VA 20105 or www.sproutcenter.org
