Doug Ballard is a recovering lawyer, having retired after 31 years of practice in 2014.  He received a JD Degree in 1983 from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR.  He was a Deputy District Attorney in Hillsboro (Washington County), OR for 10 ½ years, and for over 20 years practiced with a small firm in Forest Grove, OR.  After retirement, he became more active in the Alumni Association, serving most recently as president of his chapter. 

 He entered the Marine Corps upon graduation from Navy in 1974.   After TBS and Field Artillery Officer Basic Class, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, Kaneohe MCAS, HI from 1975-1978.  His billets included Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, and Artillery Liaison Officer in Battery A, and then the Battalion Maintenance Management Officer and Battalion Embarkation Officer. In August 1975 he became the CCO of USS Shreveport (LPD-12), Norfolk, VA, relieving classmate Jim Diehl.

Transferring to the Reserves on 1 August 1980, he served in various units located in Oregon.  His assignments included the S-4A, S-3A, Adjutant, and S-4 of the 6th Engineer Support Battalion.  As a member of Combat Service Support Element Nucleus Headquarters (West), he was the Maintenance Support Officer.  While in the Reserves he attended Naval Justice School and Reserve Amphibious Warfare School.  He retired on 1 May 1995.

Doug is a life member of the Alumni Association, the Marine Corps Association and the Marine Corps League, and is a U.S. Naval Institute member. 

Doug lives in McMinnville, OR with his wife Anne Ballard, grandson Chase, one dog, and three cats.  He is a member of the historic McCabe United Methodist Church in rural Yamhill County, OR, at which he has held various congregational offices.
