CAPT wes huey '87, USN (RET.), Ph.d.

Wes graduated with Merit from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987. His naval service includes combat deployments in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom and command of Strike Fighter Squadron 37, an FA-18 squadron based afloat on HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75). He has more than 1,000 flight hours in both the F-14 Tomcat and FA-18 Hornet, and more than 700 arrested landings on eight different aircraft carriers. He served as the Naval Aide to President William Jefferson Clinton, and after earning his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park, served for seven years on the faculty at the U.S. Naval Academy, including three years as Director, Leadership Education and Development, where his division was the only to teach the entire student body each of their four years.

Wes retired from the Navy in 2017 after 30 years, then served as the Director of Learning and Development for Skyline Technology Solutions near Baltimore, MD. In September 2021, he returned home to the Naval Academy family as Executive Director for Strategy and Legacy Programs for his alma mater’s Alumni Association and Foundation.

Wes resides in Annapolis, MD, with his wife Erica Larson (daughter of the late Admiral Charles R. Larson ’58, USN (Ret.)). They have three adult children.
