Why Give?

The Fund for Athletic Excellence

The Fund for Athletic Excellence serves as an unrestricted annual fund for Navy Athletics, which provides Physical Mission resources to all 33 varsity programs and 16 club sports. More than 95% of Navy Athletics’ annual budget is generated from external, non-government resources. Therefore, this private support from alumni and friends is essential to providing our midshipmen the margin of excellence through which they can compete and excel. Donations made through the Foundation toward the Fund for Athletic Excellence are used annually to:

•  Support Physical Mission needs to create and sustain a winning environment for all varsity programs and club sports
•  Recruit and retain outstanding coaches to serve as educators and role models for student-athletes
•  Provide Margin of Excellence resources which enhance the everyday student-athlete experience
•  Support the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) varsity athletic program, which competes against other preparatory schools, junior colleges, and college junior varsity teams

Navy Athletics continued to do remarkable things during the 2020-2021 academic year. Notable achievements include:

17-10 Army-Navy record
23 All-Americans
17 conference or nationally recognized Coaches of the Year
14 conference or nationally recognized Athletes of the Year
12 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (CoSIDA Academic All-Americans this year were the most in Naval Academy history and the fourth most in Division I)
11 Conference Championships
8 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year
4 Conference Rookies of the Year
3 National Championships
Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy

In addition to annual support through The Fund for Athletic Excellence, Navy Athletics continues to support the "margin of excellence" through sport-specific initiatives and capital projects. These projects include the recent renovations and construction of Ron Terwilliger Center for Student-Athletes, USNA Golf Course, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium & Akerson Tower, Prager Family Squash Facility, Lejeune Hall of Fame, Bishop Stadium Lights & Scoreboard, Tom Lynch Football Wardroom, Roger Staubach Football Locker Room, Captain Thorp Men's Lacrosse Wardroom, Prusmack Rugby Center and the Gurneé Golf Performance Center.
