Renee "Amatxi" Etchemendy Coyle (Dec 15, 1944 - Jan 20, 2026)
Renee “Amatxi” Etchemendy Coyle passed away peacefully in Boise on January 20, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones and care givers. She was born on December 15, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to Colonel John and Anita Etchemendy. Renee has lived in Boise for the last 25 years. She was a member of Our Lady Of The Rosary Catholic Church.
A proud Air Force brat, Renee lived all over the world. One of her most cherished places she lived was in Germany while her father was stationed at Ramstein AFB. But her most notable duty station was in Arlington, Virginia where she graduated from Bishop O’ Connell High School in 1962. During that time Renee became friendly with Mary Beth Coyle who ultimately set her up on a blind date with her future husband, Michael Coyle. Mike was a freshman or “plebe” at the US Naval Academy and after dating 3 years, Renee and Mike were married at St. Thomas More on November 27 in 1965. They famously left their wedding reception early to race to Philadelphia, PA to watch the Army/Navy tie game, 7-7. They have continued to loudly cheer for Navy throughout their 60 joyful years of marriage.
Renee was a homemaker and tough as nails navy spouse. She endured 23 moves during Mike’s 33-year naval career as a career submarine/EDO officer and ultimately, Rear Admiral. Always cheerful and ready to go, she never complained or said no. She raised seven children through countless deployments and family separations while always being available as a seasoned spouse and mentor to many military families.
Most recently, Renee enjoyed her peaceful life in Boise spending the majority of her time rejoicing her grandchildren. She delighted in hosting her family on Sundays for football where we were guaranteed one of her delectable crockpot meals. She was always on the ready to whip up her famous egg burgers. Fiercely proud of her 100% French Basque heritage, she shared that love with her 15 grandchildren. She was “Amatxi (grandmother)” to us all and she will be greatly missed! “Pudea”!
She is survived by her beloved husband, Mike. Daughters Bridget of Mill Valley, CA and Kelly of Omaha, NE; Sons Kevin, Sean, Patrick and Brady of Boise and Casey of Collegeville, PA; 15 grandchildren.
