Obituary (VA): Robert Eugene Hoffler '64

Commander Robert Eugene Hoffler (USN, Retired) died in Virginia Beach, VA August 21, 2018. Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late William Lloyd and Eleanor Biggs Hoffler.

Bob graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1964, and honorably served his country for more than 23 years. After retiring from the Navy, he began raising cattle on his farm in Prince George County, Virginia, a hobby lasting more than 30 years. Bob never passed up an auction or flea market while driving in the countryside. He loved fishing, hunting and playing poker with his buddies. Above all else, he remained devoted to his family and friends.

Bob was predeceased by his caring wife, Ann Simmons Hoffler. He is survived by his son, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Eugene Hoffler, Jr. (Akiko) and his granddaughter, Ann Mori Hoffler, all residing in McLean, VA. He is also survived by his sister, Carole Ann Hoffler Ross (Eddie), his brother, William Biggs Hoffler (Carol), all from Richmond, VA, his long-time special friend Mary Donnan Harrison and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Gary's United Methodist Church, 13501 Sunnybrook Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805 at 12:00 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to Disabled American Veterans, 4896 Kempsville Greens Pkwy, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 or the Housing Resource Center, 104 N.
