Frederick Daniel Budd Jr.  (April 23, 1935 – April 13, 2018)

Frederick Daniel Budd Jr., age 82, of Portland, Oregon passed away on April 13, 2018. Fred was born April 23, 1935 in Morristown, New Jersey to Helen Elizabeth Budd and Frederick Daniel Budd. At the age of ten Fred lost his father to the WWII battle at Iwo Jima. His mother remarried a rocket scientist whose work moved the family to Huntsville, Alabama. It was here that Fred enjoyed his childhood. He graduated from Huntsville High and went on to be accepted by the Naval Academy. After about six months he was excused from military service due to his father's death. Fred was then accepted by Auburn University where he graduated in 1957 with a bachelor's in engineering. This was his pride and joy! Fred took his knowledge of engineering and got a job with Western Electric. He went on to work for C&P Telephone Company and eventually settled with AT&T. He worked for Bell System's as a manager for 30 years. He retired in 1989 but couldn't quite settle into retirement. He eventually got a job with Baker Engineering out of Pennsylvania. He worked with them until 1996 when he finally retired for good in order to spend time with his family. It was during a training course for AT&T that Fred met Jeanette. The two got married in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on December 3, 1977 and have been together for 40 years. The two enjoyed their time together; whether it was skiing down the mountains of Colorado, relaxing at the Atlantic Ocean beach in Chincoteague, Virginia with their wonderful friends, or having a peaceful time together at Skamania Lodge in Washington, their memories together were all wonderful. Fred was a big fan of sports. He enjoyed a good match of tennis. He found a love in skiing, in fact, he would follow a more advanced friend down the mountain and be convinced he was hot stuff! During retirement he became fond of golf. Throughout all of his years he loved football. Always cheering on his Auburn University's team; "War eagle, fly down the field, ever to conquer, never to yield!" Fred will be remembered as a truly chivalrous southern gentleman, a loving father, and tenderhearted grand father & great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Fred is survived by his wife, Jeanette Budd; daughter Deborah Fletcher; son-in-law David Fletcher; son Danny Budd; daughter-in-law Danielle Budd; brother William Budd; sister-in-law Nancy Budd; granddaughters Laura Ansley, Elizabeth Fletcher, Trinity Budd and Kinsley Budd; grandson Aaron Budd and great grandchildren Halleck Ansley, Ronin Ansley and Nora Ansley.
