Karin A. Vernazza '90, sphr

Board-Selected Trustee

CAPT Vernazza served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy for over 25 years. A highly decorated and pioneering female graduate of the Naval Academy, she exceled in numerous senior leadership assignments and became a military protocol expert having served as the Chief of Protocol for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Special Operations Command and the Chief of Naval Operations.


Additionally, she served as the Chief of Staff for Naval Sea Systems Command which is the Navy’s largest acquisition command with the primary objective to engineer, build, and support the U.S. Navy's fleet of ships and its combat systems which accounts for over one quarter of the Navy's entire budget. She commanded the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command 7th Battalion and served as the Navy’s Human Resources Head Assignment Officer.


Karin attended Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program, earned an Executive Master’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Public Administration from Troy University and graduated Bachelor of Science in Economics from the U.S. Naval Academy in addition to her Naval War College and Joint Forces Staff College Degrees.
CAPT Vernazza currently serves on the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Board as Chair of the Governance & Nominations Committees and as a Navy Federal Credit Union Board Volunteer Official.
