LT Kaila Julia '12, USN

Raised in Florida, Kaila is a 2012 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.  She was proudly commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer.

Her initial sea tour was on USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109) as the Communications Officer and Repair Division Officer from June 2012 through November 2014. Her follow-on sea tour was on USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) as the Training Officer from December 2014 through July 2016. During both tours, LT Julia completed several deployments across multiple fleets along with supporting numerous multinational exercises.

LT Julia started her Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) training in July 2016 and earned her WTI patch in October 2016. She then served at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) from October 2016 through October 2019. 

At EWTGLANT, she was the Course Curriculum Module Manager for Amphibious Warfare Indoctrination. She also taught Amphibious Warfare Staff Planning, Maritime Engagement and Crisis Response, and ARG-MEU Staff Planning. In November 2019, she transitioned from Active Duty to the Reserve.

In 2019, she earned her Professional in Human Resources certification along with her Master of Science in Human Resource Development from Villanova University. 

LT Julia currently serves as the Membership Co-Chair and Events Chair for the U.S. Naval Academy Minority Association. She served as a member of the Charter and Bylaws Committee for USNA Women’s SIG in the Fall 2020.

Her awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2), and various other service and unit awards.   

LT Julia currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA, as the Key Account Manager for Marine—DoD business at the Electrical Equipment Company in Norfolk, VA. As a Reservist, she serves with Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron TEN SBC CHARLIE. Her brother, another USNA graduate, is a Naval Flight Officer and her sister is an Officer in the Army Reserve.
