On the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 10, in front of a number of alumni, parents and fans, Naval Academy Superintendent VADM Sean Buck '83, Navy Athletic Director
Chet Gladchuk and Head Navy Squash Coach
Tyler Osborne officially dedicated the newly-renovated Prager Family Squash Facility ahead of the team's home opener against #7 Virginia. The facility was made possible through the generosity of Paul '80 and Joanne Prager, whose leadership commitment and vision has elevated the home of Navy Squash to one of the most impressive facilities in college squash.
"With a program and a tradition as ours, we were motivated to create something incredibly special here at the Naval Academy. The personal touch of Paul and Joanne is reflected in the facility, in the quality and the history and tradition that is on display. At the Academy, we are committed to every one of our student-athlete midshipmen and providing them with every opportunity to succeed. That includes outstanding coaches, outstanding resources and outstanding facilities. This is a perfect example of the commitment the Academy has, not only to Squash, but to ensuring a level of excellence for all of our programs," said Gladchuk.
The Prager Family Squash Facility features the newly-built all-glass doubles court which is unlike any court in the world and promises to attract top talent to Navy Squash. Other enhancements include a modernized locker room, a team study room and fan viewing areas. Additionally, technology throughout the facility has been updated to include permanent scoreboards and live streaming capabilities for all courts within the facility. This live streaming capability will allow parents and alumni to enjoy Navy Squash across the country and help grow the reach and influence of the program. "We are so grateful to have a family, like the Prager's, in our corner. To provide some context to the magnitude of their support—in addition to renovating this entire facility, there is nothing like this Doubles Court anywhere in the country. Thanks to this space, we expect to bring the finest squash players to Navy," said Osborne. Â
The Dedication event also included remarks from Paul Prager '80, who reflected on his upbringing and lessons he learned that have helped shape his life. He also paid tribute to the Navy Squash team and commitment they have made to attend the Naval Academy and serve our country. Paul and his wife Joanne have been instrumental in renovating other Physical Mission projects on the Yard, including providing leadership support for the current renovation of Halsey Field House and Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The Prager Family Squash Facility was part of the recently concluded Naval Academy
Called to Serve Daring to Lead Capital Campaign, which ended in June 2021. In addition to the Prager Family Squash Facility, the Campaign included the construction and restoration of several other NAAA facilities including the Ron Terwilliger '63 Center for Student-Athletes, the USNA Golf Course, and Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
