Frank Young (June 21, 1936 – January 17, 2020)
Frank Dwight Young, 3rd, passed from life on January 17, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Dwight Young and Caroline Young and his sister, Phyllis. He is survived by his sister, Mary and brother, Paul as well as his wife, Carol Ann Young; children, Debra Mulé (Steven), Lisa Gandrud (Michael), David Young (Marybeth) and Christopher Young (Anna) and grandchildren, Tori, Betsy, Keith, Abby, Matthew, Connor, Liam, Declan, Brianna, Brianna and Christopher.
Frank grew up in Valley Stream, NY, was a champion Cross Country and distance runner at Central High School leading to being recruited by Brown University. He attended and ran for Brown for one year before transferring to the US Naval Academy where he was a top 5 member on the cross country team for all 4 years.
Frank had a varied career as a Naval Officer, Field Training Engineer, High School Math Teacher and Computer Programmer. He had a lifelong love of Math, was an avid runner and was very active in civic, parish and volunteer organizations including the Uniondale Community Council, the Freeport Historical Society and the Nassau County Math Teachers Association.
Frank and Carol raised their family in Uniondale, NY on Long Island. They retired to the waterfront in Freeport and travelled extensively both in the United States and Europe. They moved into Kendal at Longwood following a stroke which left him significantly impaired. He enjoyed each phase of his life.
A visitation will be from 4:00PM until 7:00PM only on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the Longwood Funeral Home & Cremation of Matthew Genereux, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square. Burial will be private.
A memorial service in the auditorium at Kendal at Longwood, 1109 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2:00PM.
