Obituary (FL): Mrs. Nancy (Donald R. Fraser '67)

Nancy Herrmann Fraser  (OCTOBER 19, 1950 – JANUARY 20, 2020)

Nancy Fraser, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida on January 20, 2020 after a tenacious battle with cancer. She was 69 years old. A Navy junior, she was born in Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Virginia and enjoyed moving to many locations and duty stations. She earned her degree in Nursing from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York in 1972 and began a lifelong career of helping others. She served as a Navy nurse, both active duty and reserve, retiring at the rank of Captain. As a reservist recalled to active duty, she served with Fleet Hospital 15 in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm in 1991.

Her love of learning led to a Masters Degree in General Administration from the University of Maryland in 1983. In 1989, she added a Masters Degree in Nursing, also from the University of Maryland. She completed a Nurse Practitioner course at Emory University in 1991, and practiced in women's health for the remainder of her nursing career.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Navy Chaplain Captain Theodore Herrmann and June Herrmann, as well as her brother, Ted Herrmann, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Captain Don Fraser, USN (Ret), her daughter, Commander Jennifer Fraser, JAGC, USN (Jeff Widenhofer), her daughter, Jessica Hernandez, DPT (Randy) and four grandchildren, Madeline and Jacqueline Widenhofer and Noah and Isaac Hernandez.
