Obituary (TX): Lance Alan Wilmarth '66

Lance Alan Wilmarth, age 74, died October 11,2019. Lance was born in Portland, Oregon to Wilma and Richard Wilmarth, both of Portland, Oregon. Lance graduated from the Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He served as a Navy pilot for Patrol Squadron Sixteen, based in Jacksonville, Florida, and Attack Squadron Forty-two, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with deployments to Bermuda, Sicily and Argentia, Newfoundland. Upon completing his Naval service, Lance joined Delta Airlines as a pilot from which he retired after thirty years. Lance and Hope joined St. Philip Presbyterian Church in the early seventies, continuing to serve to the present day. Lance was a Deacon, taught Sunday school for many years and served on various committees, culminating in his support for Kids Against Hunger. Additionally, Lance was a Big Brother and a Northwest Assistance Ministries volunteer. He delighted in playing golf in all fifty states, and was an avid fly fisherman. Lance is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his two brothers, Rande and Tim, of Oregon. His greatest joys in life were his fifty-one-year marriage to Hope, who survives him, and his walk of faith. Lance is also survived by his daughters, Heather Burkhart of Houston, Texas, Jill Hermann-Wilmarth of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Emily Wilmarth of Highlands, North Carolina; grandchildren, Isabelle and Jeb Burkhart, Arden and Gertrude Hermann-Wilmarth and Clara Gates-Wilmarth. He is also survived by a host of loving relatives. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip Presbyterian Church Mission Committee.
