Obituary (TX): William Wallace Lindsay Jr. '62

Posted on 10/31/2019

William "Bill" Lindsay Jr.  (AUGUST 4, 1939 – OCTOBER 24, 2019)

William Wallace “Bill” Lindsay, Jr. was born into eternal life on October 24, 2019. The son of Rita Dolan and William W. Lindsay Sr., Bill was born in Denison, Texas on August 4, 1939.

Bill attended Denison High School, the U.S. Naval Academy, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned numerous decorations. Upon retirement from the military, he returned to Denison to continue his public service in the civilian arena.

Bill initially served as a community volunteer, never hesitant to offer his time and service to the young people in his beloved hometown of Denison. He served as a coach for the Denison Girls Club, a board member of Denison Little League, announcer for DHS baseball, driver for DHS team physician Dr. John Saunders, and supported youth teams with his presence at football, basketball, baseball, track and soccer games. Lindsay also spent countless hours assisting the Denison Chamber of Commerce, the Lakefest Regatta, and the Denison Main Street Program.

When approached to contribute to the community as an elected official, Bill answered the call to service again, elected first as a Denison City Council member and subsequently serving seven years as Mayor. He brought great value to the City as Mayor, and that position opened a variety of other doors to engage in the community. He went on to serve as President of Texas Association of Mayors, Council Members and Commissioners; President of Texoma Solid Waste Agency; President of Texoma Council of Governments; Vice Chairman of Cities Aggregation Power Plan; Vice President of the Denison Chamber of Commerce; Vice Chairman of the State Economic Development Board; Chairman of the Community Development Block Grant Board; Trustee on Texas Municipal League Inter-Governmental Employees Benefit Pool; Chairman of TML Municipal Revenue and Taxation Committee; member of the Small Business Industrial Development Corporation; Treasurer of the Texoma Regional Foundation; Board Member of the Texas Association of Regional Councils; and a Board Member of the Denison Development Foundation.

Bill is survived by a grateful country, state, county, and city along with countless friends, neighbors and loved ones whose lives have been forever changed by an accomplished, distinguished, and extraordinary man.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bratcher Funeral Home. There will be a rosary at 6:00 pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Denison on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. Patrick’s. The community is invited to a reception at the CCD Center following the Mass.
