Elizabeth "Betty" L. Shumaker, 86, of Medina, was called to Heaven on Friday, August 30, 2019. She is survived by her five children, Clif (Donna) Shumaker of Medina, Kathy Simpson of Sterling, Virginia, Chris (Carol) Shumaker of Richmond, Virginia, Craig Shumaker of Pensacola, Florida and Curtis (Cindy) Shumaker of New York, New York; her 10 grandchildren, Clif Jr., Stephen (Kristen), Matthew (Marianne), Daniel, Ashley Simpson, Cory, Anna, Troy (Tracy), Collin and Cameron and many nieces and nephews; she also leaves her two sisters-in-law, Dean (Joe) Evans and Joanne Neptune. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Carrie Eckenrode; brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Dottie Eckenrode and her husband, the love of her life for 60+ years, Carl "Clif" Shumaker. Born October 1, 1932, Betty grew up Barberton until she met her soulmate, Clif Shumaker while he was attending the U.S. Naval Academy. After their marriage in 1955, they moved around the Country with the Navy until they eventually settled in Vienna, Virginia in 1967 when Clif left the Navy. While raising five children, Betty worked with TRW for 20 years until her retirement. In 2003, Betty and Clif returned to Wadsworth before moving into Brookdale North in Medina in 2014. Betty enjoyed her children and grandchildren, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and Cape May, New Jersey. Betty will be remembered for her strong will, quick wit, warm heart and love for Jesus Christ. Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2019 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court Street, Medina. The funeral service will be in same location on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 11 a.m. with burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
