On Monday, August the 5, 2019, Thomas David Flory of Madison, Virginia passed from this life to be with the Lord.
Tom was born in February 18, 1943, in New Britain, Connecticut. He was 6 years old when his family moved to Annapolis, Maryland. He began playing golf at age 10, an illustrious talent that would take him to the Naval Academy, introduce him to his wife Priscilla and lead him around the world spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At age 11, after winning the President’s Cup at his local club, playing among a field of men, he exclaimed, “That day was the most exciting day of my 11-year old life...I knew then that I wanted to compete and golf was it! After that I was on the way.”
The name Thomas means, “one of equality.” One of Tom’s most endearing qualities was the way he treated everyone equally. He was most proud of his family and loved drawing others into “the family circle.”
He is preceded in death by his father Marion L. Flory and his mother, Patricia C. Duffy. He is survived by beloved wife of fifty-four years, Priscilla Ripperger Flory; his children David and wife Martha Flory, Emily Ellingwood and husband Tom and Ashley Bodkins and husband Gregory; his six grandchildren Lexy, Megan, Isabella, Lucas, Ava Grace, Mica Rose; his brother John Jacob Flory and wife Patricia; and sister-in-law, Harriett Clark.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Renback Barn, 8668 South Blue Ridge Turnpike, Rochelle, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at the National Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 12:00 noon.
