Obituary (MO): James Curtis Landes Jr. '47

James Curtis Landes, Jr., age 94 of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019. Jim was born December 25, 1924 at his family home in Lewisville, AR. He was the second of three sons born to James Curtis and Aileen Stewart Landes. He attended Ouachita Baptist University before receiving an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

For over 30 years, he was employed by Monsanto Corporation. Jim enjoyed playing tennis into his 80s, and was an avid sports spectator, having played many in his youth. A true "Southern gentleman” and Christian, he was greatly admired for his kindness, strength, humility, and amiable personality. He is loved dearly by family and friends, and will be missed. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clovis Stewart Landes and Rodney Routt Landes. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Grayce Chatfield Landes of Des Peres, MO; sons, Curt Landes of Kirkwood, MO, Chris Landes (Holly) of Georgetown, TX, and daughter, Lori Landes of St. Louis, MO; four granddaughters, Jessica (Derick), Whitney (Michael), Ashley, and Alexandra, and one grandson, Aaron (Melody). He is also survived by his four (extremely) great- grandchildren -- Freddy, Jaxon, Olivia Jaymes, and Colton.

A memorial service will be held at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, Missouri on Saturday, June 29 at 11am with visitation starting at 10am. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of St. Louis or Arkansas Baptist Children's Home - ABC Homes.
